In May 2004, Tori Spelling and best friend, Mehran Farhat, launched their jewelry line, Maven. The two met as teenagers and became fast friends sharing a love for fashion. Spelling, busy with her acting career, and Farhat, currently pursuing his MBA at the University of Southern California, realized that their hectic schedules would never allow for an ideal time to establish their own line -- so they decided to take the plunge. Both have individual, yet complementary styles, which have inspired them to develop a collection of fun, retro inspired jewelry mostly in yellow gold. “I like to design things that I can’t find in stores and that I would like to personally wear,” says Spelling. Fun is the operative word with Maven’s signature charm necklaces which come in different themes such as “Hawaii 5-0,” “Lucky Charms,” “Vegas Baby,” and “Indian Summer.” Maven’s follow-up collection features stones such as opal, coral and turquoise. Spelling also plans to incorporate here love for romantic, filigree pieces from the 20s and 30s in future collections. “We have a great working relationship and are very excited to see our line develop and evolve,” says Farhat. Spelling specifically chose the name Maven as she believes the line produces pieces tailored for style mavens everywhere. Self-proclaimed fashion mavens, Spelling and Farhat confirm that their commitment to designing stylish, fun pieces will always remain strong as they both share a “passion for fashion” and “weakness for chicness.”
